“I’ve always had rural connections. My mother came off the family farm and I spent many ‘character building’ hours, at work and play, on the farms at Sheffield and Annat.

I’ve always enjoyed rural folk and their down to earth, pragmatic approach to life. I’m also a great believer in the need for our unique New Zealand society, town and country, to be understanding and sensitive to each other’s needs. There’s no better way to demonstrate how that should come together than the three days at the NZ Agricultural Show – the largest of its kind in the country.”
