Role:  Director Agriculture / General Committee Representative

Ian Stevenson is a current Board member and Past President of the Canterbury A&P Association. Ian has a long history with the Canterbury A&P and has never missed a Show since he was 2 or 3 years of age and can remember loading the sheep for his father to bring to the Show. He joined the Committee in 1983 and it took 23 years to become the President in 2006. He talks fondly of the camaraderie at the Shows and the many evenings spent in the camping ground socialising.

Ian has had a large involvement with the sheep studs and is a Past President of both the Dorset Down and Merino Breed Societies as well as being the Past President of the New Zealand Sheep Breeders Association which represents thirty-five registered stud sheep breeds. Over the year’s Ian has judged at sheep shows all over the country as well as the major shows in Australia. Ian has recently passed over the reins of his property The Gums in Cheviot to his son Mark and his other son Bryce is currently farming in the Wairarapa. To relax Ian loves nothing better than a horse trek in the back of beyond.
