Cattle

Cattle exhibitions probably began as bazaars or fairs. Throughout the last 160 years in Canterbury these gatherings diverged somewhat from their original function and became primarily competitive showplaces for cattle and beef and dairy produce with settings for the display of new technology, as well as social events.

When Mycoplasma Bovis was discovered throughout New Zealand in early 2018, The Canterbury A&P Association lead the way for cattle to continue to be shown by setting up a rigorous and robust protocol enabling exhibitors to safely bring their cattle to The New Zealand Agricultural Show that year. Our Biosecurity protocol is now permanently in place and has been adopted by other A&P Associations throughout New Zealand.
