Mint Lamb Competition

​The objective of the Mint Lamb Competition is to promote the quality and variety of lamb available in the South Island, leading to increased consumption while providing an opportunity for individual farmers to be recognised for their superior products.​

 

GIFT LAMB ENTRY​

The Competition is open to all farmers throughout the South Island and open to all breeds. Lambs are to be current new season lambs born after 1st July in any given year draw of prizes in total value exceeding $30,000.00.​

Each entry of a lamb entitles you to an entry into the Canterbury A&P Association’s famous prize draw, held at the celebratory prize-giving.​

GIFT DONATION ENTRY​

If you do not have a lamb to enter, you can enter via a ‘gift donation’ of $100, incl GST, for one entry into the famous prize draw.​

All entrants (Gift Lamb or Gift Donation) will be eligible for the ‘drawn prizes’ detailed every year and posted on the website one month ahead of the prize drawer. These will be drawn under police supervision prior to the prize giving at 5.00pm following the Elite Ram & Ewe Fair.​

PRIZES & PRIZEGIVING​

The winners will be announced at the prize giving, following the Elite Ram & Ewe Fair.​

Stage 1 ​
OVERALL CARCASS YIELD & HOOK:​

The top 4 entrants in each class with the highest combined Overall Carcass Yield & Hook score will receive the following:​

  • 1st $200.00 prize money​
  • 2nd $150.00 prize money​
  • 3rd $100.00 prize money​
  • 4th $50.00 prize money​

Stage 2 ​
CLASS PLACINGS: (COMBINATION OF OVERALL CARCASS YIELD & HOOK AND TENDER):​

The finalists in each class will receive the following:​

  • 1st $200.00 prize money​
  • 2nd $150.00 prize money​
  • 3rd $100.00 prize money​
  • 4th $50.00 prize money​

Stage 3 ​
OVERALL WINNER:​

Once the results from the Taste Test have been accounted for, the winner from the Rambreeders Class (class 3) will be awarded prize money of $250.00​. The overall winner of the Mint Lamb Competition (from Classes 1 & 2) will be awarded the​ Mint Lamb trophy, a show ribbon, and $1000.00 prize money.​

PUBLICITY​

Competition results will be promoted via media release to all key media nationally, on official New Zealand Agricultural Show social media channels and The Show website.​
